Propel Fall '18 Release Notes

Rev: 2.56

Release Date: 11/21/2018

Ability to quick-add attachments when creating items

When you create a new item, you can drop files to attach to the newly created item, or search for an existing file or add a URL attachment

  • Quick-add attachments is also available when creating a new item while adding to the BOM tab
  • This can save time and help avoid forgetting to go to the Attachments tab to add the file

Support for category-specific Item fields

  • The ability to configure Item fields (in addition to Item Revision fields) as category-specific fields
  • Example use case: If you want to lock-down the Item Number to prevent users from modifying the number from the auto-generated Item Number. You can remove the field from the New Item form and the Item Details (by removing the Item Number field from the Item object’s “Item New Page” and “Item Details Tab” field sets), so that the user doesn’t have an opportunity to edit it. However, if you want for Item Number to be open for editing on certain categories, you can now configure Item Number (Item__c.Name) as a category-specific field

Item Audit Trail

  • Complete audit trail for all field updates and modifications to BOM, manufacturers, and attachments, including downloads. See the Item Audit Trail report
  • This will go beyond the Salesforce limits of 60 fields for field tracking and retain the data beyond the 18 month history retention policy
  • Note: The Item’s history tab will only display information from the installation of this upgrade forward. The existing history data is still available to be reported against with the Item History report type and is subject to Salesforce’s retention policy.

Affected Items modal carousel navigation

  • Walk-through your affected items without closing and re-opening the modal

Add immediate parents to change

  • From the Affected Item’s pop-up, on the Where Used tab, you can now select from the Immediate Parents table the items you want to add to change.
  • Example use case: When you revision an item, sometimes you’ll also want to revision the immediate parents.

Quality Affected Items calls out when a pending revision is affected

Approvers tab only displays sections for approval phases

Export Attachments in bulk

  • Go to the Attachments tab, select the attachments to download and click the new Download button. The selected files will be zipped up and posted in Chatter.
  • Example use case: You want to send a change package to your manufacturing partner. Instead of going to each item and downloading all the attachments, you can download them all at once from the change.

Training Plan Audit Trail

  • Complete audit trail for all field updates and modifications to trainees, training items, and training assignment. See the Training Plan Audit Trail report.
  • This will go beyond the Salesforce limits of 60 fields for field tracking and retain the data beyond the 18 month history retention policy.

New Capabilities

Product Information Management

See the PIM Best Practices article in our knowledge base.

Unlimited, localizable, and inherited Attributes

  • Admin setup
    • Define the company-supported locales -- English is the active default
    • Define category-specific attributes -- inherited from the parent and grandparent categories.
    • Organize the attributes into groups for display purposes
    • Enable the new Attributes tab
  • When you create an item of that category, you’ll be able to enter the localized values for all your product information on the Attributes tab

Variant Dimensions to auto-generate SKUs

  • Define category-specific variant dimensions (like size and color)
  • Optionally, include SKU segments and order the dimensions
  • Based on the variant dimension values for the product, Propel will auto-generate all your SKUs based on the dimension values matrix.
  • For example, if you have a storage device that comes in 2 sizes (100GB and 250GB) and 3 colors (black, white, red), then there are 6 combinations of SKUs. If the dimension order is Size then Color, and the storage device’s base SKU is 10001 and the SKU segment for 100GB is -100 and -250 for the 250GB variant, and the SKU segment for colors are -B, -W, and -R, then Propel will auto-generate the following SKUs:
    • 10001-100-B
    • 10001-100-W
    • 10001-100-R
    • 10001-250-B
    • 10001-250-W
    • 10001-250-R
  • All of the variant dimension names and values have locale-specific values.

SKU-specific attribute values

  • The base product item has a general set of attributes that apply to all of the SKUs, however, you may want to have a unique value for certain variants.
  • For example, a backpack that comes in canvas or nylon, you may want to specify the material as 100% cotton, but overwrite the material value for the nylon variations in each locale.

SKU-specific attachments

  • The base product item has a general set of attachments that can include locale information, however, you will likely also have one or more SKU-specific attachments.
  • For example, a picture of the red model for the red SKUs.

Product Launch and Task Management

Project Object

  • Start_Date__c deprecated and replaced by Calculated_Start_Date__c. Calculated Start Date is a roll-up of the earliest Activity Start Date in a Project.

Architecture Improvements

  • Parent_project__c (Sub-projects) deprecated. Creating Sub-projects is no longer supported.
  • Activities can now be nested up to six levels (previously limited at two levels).

Activity Dates

  • Parent Activities are a roll-up of their children Activities’ Start and Finish Dates. A Parent Activity’s Start and Finish date are read-only.
  • Hide all baselines from the Timeline to remove visual noise.
  • Reset all baselines to match the current actual dates of corresponding activities.

Timeline Visual Design Refresh

  • Updated visual design to improve visibility and match Salesforce color scheme.

Consolidated List and Timeline view

  • Edit Activity fields on the List View and see those changes in real-time on the Timeline view and vice-versa.
  • List View fieldset updated to display: Name, Start Date, Finish Date, Assigned To, Priority

Quick add tasks

  • Create activities directly from the List View by only defining Activity Name and Start and Finish Date.

Actionable Timeline

  • Drag and drop activities to reschedule activities and baselines.
  • Extend the duration of activities by editing the start and finish date on the Timeline.
  • Draw Finish-to-Start dependencies between activities directly on the Timeline.
  • Toggle Timeline to view only the List View to enable easier editing.

In-line editable activity List View

  • Modify field values in the List View in-line without editing from the Activity modal. Supports text, picklist, lookup, and number fields.
  • Sort the List View and in turn the Timeline by any column. The latest sorted column is remembered on a user-by-user basis.
  • Reparent Activities by dragging an Activity under a Parent Activity.

Template Projects associated with Change or Quality category

  • Create a template of activities that can be associated with a change or quality category. Each time a change or quality of that category is created, a new project will be created and associated to the record using the template of activities.
  • Example use case: PLM Administrators can create templates for repeatable tasks that need to be completed in specific phases of a workflow. These tasks can be assigned out to individual users in order to make sure all affected items, attachments, and required fields are considered before processing the change order.

My Unfinished Activities homepage widget

  • View your incomplete activities sorted by Finish Date on the homepage.

Activities Modal

  • Compose chatter messages within the Activities Modal to quickly communicate with team members.
  • Reorganized and relabeled buttons to provide more clarity on the button actions and to increase productivity.
    • “Edit” is now the primary action.
    • “Start” relabeled “Start Activity”
    • “Close” relabeled “Complete Activity”
    • “Delete” placed as the last option.

  • Deprecated Alerts field on the Project object.
  • Notifications are sent via chatter when the Assigned To field is modified.

Items, Changes and Quality

PDF Generation based on a Word template

  • Generate PDF files based on Word templates
  • Extra services and recurring fee required, ask your account representative for details
  • Change and Quality templates can include data from details, affected items, attachments, related changes/quality, and final approvals from each approval phase
  • Item templates can include data from details, first-level BOM items, manufacturers, and attachments
  • Example use case: An auditor has asked to see some specific information for a set of Quality objects. Set up a template that includes only the requested data, generate the PDFs for the requested Quality objects, and provide the auditor just what is needed.

Generate watermarked PDFs for Word attachments

  • Based on the entry into a change phase, the system can generate a watermarked PDF of the Word attachments on affected items and attach the PDF to the items.
  • Extra services and recurring fee required, ask your account representative for details
  • Configure based on change/quality category and phase when to generate the PDFs
  • In addition to the watermark text, you can configure the left and right margin text, left, center, and right footer text with static or dynamic information from the change/quality
  • Optionally, append a page of final approvals from each approval phase
  • Also, watermark the superseded revisions, when you release a new revision, you can also generate PDFs for the previous revision’s attachments to indicate that they are no longer the effective document
  • Example use case: You want for the consumers of your attachments to be aware of the status of the documents. They download the PDF and you can see if it is the current effective document

Notable Bug Fixes

Product Area

Moving a change into an Is Cancelled phase, where the affected items has a combination of previously released and never before released, makes the latter item unviewable.

Fixed to hide the cancelled draft and create a new draft, so the item is viewable.

Where Used Top Parents was missing the option to display the Description field.

Fixed the available fields for the Where Used Top field set.

Missing invalid child phase error in the Change’s Affected Items modal BOM tab

Fixed to display the error when applicable.

Bulk Change dialog layout was missing scrollbars and obscuring the lower portion of the dialog.

Fixed the layout and scrolling.

Replace on BOM was displaying inaccurate redlines.

Fixed the redlines display.

PLM - Multiple Drafts

Rebaselining changes from a released revision to other drafts didn’t work when the final approver user was a read-only user.

Fixed to rebaseline other drafts regardless of the permissions of the final approver user.

PLM - Multiple Drafts

Rebaselining changes for Replace on BOM was not being done.

Fixed to rebaseline other drafts for Replace on BOM.

PLM - Costs

Replace and Bulk Replace did not retain the same Include in Cost Roll-up checkbox state and % allocation.

If there are the same number of manufacturer parts on both the old and new items, we’ll retain the same Include in Cost Roll-up checkbox state and % allocation.
If there are a disparate number of manufacturer parts on the old and new items, or a mixture of checked and unchecked parts, then the system will default to Include in Cost Roll-up and default the % allocation to 100.

PLM - Import

Import to manufacturer parts was creating erroneous redlines.

Eliminated the erroneous redlines.

PLM - Costs

Create draft was automatically checking Include in Cost Roll-up for all rows.

Create draft copies the same Include in Cost Roll-up statuses from the released revision.

Retraining was not creating new training assignments for item revisions that the user had previously signed-off.

Fixed so new training assignments are created as expected.
